"Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body."

The Weekly Reminder for October 3, 2007
-------------------------------------

Dear Friend of the Persecuted Church—

Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.  (Galatians 6:2)

It has been a while since we simply took a look at some specific needs of persecuted believers all over the world.  Please pray for these situations, and for the unreported, uncounted stories that are equally as real.

 Burma

Normally a country that flies “under the radar,” Burma’s human rights violations have come in to prominent focus in the last week.  Massive riots against the ruling military junta have resulted in the deaths of hundreds, if not thousands, of activists and protestors.

To the best of my knowledge, none of these protests have focused on the situations of Christians specifically, but it is Christians that stand to benefit from or suffer by these protests.  The changing situation provides an amazing opportunity for freedom to grow for believers that have suffered under one of the world’s most oppressive regimes, but it also provides the danger of military retribution.

 North Korea

Another of the world’s most repressive regimes, North Korea has long been known to persecute its Christians.  Believing in Jesus Christ is strictly forbidden, and even owning a Bible can mean unbelievable punishment.

But the persecution might be even more dire than previously thought.  New research done by Open Doors shows that the camps for political prisoners—which, in North Korea, includes Christians—are far bigger than previously estimated.

In addition to persecuting Christians, North Korea takes active measure to stop people from ministering to those that are suffering.  When you pray for North Korean Christians, pray not only for their safety, but also for those people that are working to bring them aid—pray that they would be able to make it past all of the dangers and traps set for them.

 Nigeria

Muslim youths in the northern Kano State recently went on a rampage against the homes and businesses of Christians, following rumors that Christians had blasphemed Mohammed.  At least nine Christians were killed, and one source said that every Christian church, home, or business in the Tundan Wada area was at least damaged.

 India

The list of atrocities against Christians continues to grow by leaps and bounds.  In just the past couple of weeks, Christians have been beaten, cursed, shot, and threatened with unimaginable atrocities because of their faith.

But the news is not all bad; God continues to demonstrate His faithfulness.  The story I link to below is just one example, how the faithful witness and prayer of a Christian preacher, in the face of persecution, was used by God to turn the persecutor into a brother in Jesus Christ.

            Thank you for praying!

Yours for the Body of Christ,
