Dear Friend of the Persecuted Church—
“I would like to thank everyone who stood with me and appreciated our circumstances, and prayed for us. I thank everyone who has contributed and is contributing to support me. Your help enabled me also to get the medicine that I need. I have no other income, except what comes from Remember. What you are giving really gives life. If Remember did not help me, probably I would not be here today.”
What power believers have to minister to the Body of Christ! These words are from Mrs. H, an Egyptian widow that Remember has supported for months, and that our team met just a couple of weeks ago in Cairo.
Her story is amazing on its own, but combined with the testimony of her life it is almost breathtaking in its impact. Her husband was a pastor ministering to Egyptian believers, when his work gained the attention of the Egyptian authorities. They put great pressure on him to stop his work, but he refused, even in the face of arrest and interrogation.
Attempting intimidation was not enough for the authorities, when it failed to stop this persevering preacher. The secret police arranged an “accident,” and this pastor’s life was ended by a taxicab at a Cairo intersection.
He left behind a wife and two sons, without a breadwinner or physical protector. Mrs. H. also has significant lung problems that require her to visit the doctor regularly. It was at that point that Remember stepped in and has been able to meet their physical needs ever since. This entire family has remained steadfast in their faith, in spite of the spiritual, cultural, and physical oppression that bombards them constantly—they have been raised up on the intercessions of their fellow believers.
That is the power that the Body of Christ has, the world over—because prayer is powerful across borders, languages, and cultures. And what I have shared is only about half of the story! Next week, I’ll tell you how God has raised up an unbelievable replacement for this pastor.
“I would like to thank everyone who...prayed for us.” On behalf of the persecuted believers you bless, thanks for praying.
Yours for the Body of Christ,
Gabriel J. Waddell
