The Weekly Reminder for December 10, 2008
-------------------------------------

Dear Friend of the Persecuted Church—

The new year is just around the corner, and it is going to bring some changes to The Weekly Reminder that I wanted to tell you about. The day-to-day operations of this ministry are going to go through some big changes, as in just a few weeks I will be following God’s call westward. At the beginning of next year, I will be starting a new job in Fresno, California, and will no longer be handling the daily operations of Remember.

It is important for me to note that our ministry is not fundamentally changing. Our ministry to the widows and orphans of martyrs will continue, and it will continue to be built on your donations and the tireless work of uncountable volunteers – of which, starting next month, I will be one!

One of Remember’s core focus points has been calling the Body of Christ to prayer. The Weekly Reminder has been one outpouring of that passion over the past two years, along with resource like the Ambassadors blog, Country Focus bulletin inserts, and speaking engagements. The passion for prayer continues, even as Remember transitions, so The Weekly Reminder will take a new turn. Instead of an e-mail every week, expect one regular e-mail each month, with updates as persecution news breaks across the world.

But because we’ll no longer be writing once a week, we have to change the name! Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary tells us that the word “intercede” means to “intervene between parties with a view to reconciling differences: mediate.” Based on that definition, it’s no accident that throughout Scripture, when we are called to pray for the needs of others (or indeed, when Christ and the Holy Spirit pray for us) it is called intercession. In praying for others we intervene on behalf of those we lift up in prayer.

Because of the special meaning of the word intercession, it is appropriate to use it in prayer alerts for the persecuted church, so we are re-naming this e-mail the Intercession Alert. When you see the Intercession Alert show up in your inbox, remember the power of what you are doing – supernaturally intervening on behalf of suffering saints across the world.

And as Remember transitions to a completely volunteer organization, would you intercede on our behalf? The work that we do is close to the heart of God, and we want to do it well, even on a volunteer basis. We need His wisdom, His blessing, and His power as we not only continue in the ministry He has given so far, but expand to meet the constantly growing need.

Yours for the Body of Christ,

Gabriel J. Waddell
Executive Director
