"Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body."

The Weekly Reminder for August 6, 2008
-------------------------------------

Dear Friend of the Persecuted Church—

I am currently enjoying the short biography of a woman who was able, by the love of Christ flowing through her, to make an impact on the most unlikely people.

When you think of the Middle East, what do you think of?  You probably think of closed doors, dictators, and extremism.  That’s not universally true, of course, but neither is it inaccurate.  It’s certainly safe to say that the Middle East is not a friendly place for the gospel or those that share it.

But this woman was able, by her work, to make friends with royalty – people that, in general, opposed the spread of the gospel, but were influenced by her life and actions nonetheless.  She was a foreigner, and outsider, and a Christian, all of which were against her, but her influence was undeniable.

As I was reading, I was reminded of Proverbs 22:29, which says, “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.”  “Mean” in this sense doesn’t imply evil will or a nasty attitude, necessarily, but is the mathematical “mean,” or average – the Hebrew word means insignificant, obscure, and low.  The diligent man will not labor in obscurity, but will have a noble audience!  This woman’s life is proof of that promise.  She was diligent in the love of Christ, and because of that made an impact on kings, not to mention the hundreds of needy people her life touched.

What a prayer request that would be for our persecuted brothers and sisters.  Kings are the most unlikely audience of a persecuted Christian – so often those civil leaders are the ones doing the persecuting.  Only imagine what the result could be if God used diligent Christians to bear witness before kings!  Will you pray for this miracle?

Pray that God will raise up diligent, exemplary Christians in every nation, Christians qualified and willing to influence the highest leaders for the gospel.  Pray that these Christians would shine a bright light, be effective to ease the suffering of Christians, and be protected in their work from persecution and the attacks of the enemy.

Yours for the Body of Christ,
