Dear Friend of the Persecuted Church—
Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2)
Please pray for these persecution hot spots!
Ethiopia
Earlier this month, Muslim radicals killed three Christians and wounded dozens more in an attack that is a terrible symptom of a far deeper problem. That deeper problem is the spread of Wahhabi Islam, the same teachings that have led to groups like Al Qaeda.
This spreading, violent hatred of Christianity can only mean increased persecution for Christians in Ethiopia. Let us pray, like the Psalmist, that God would “break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man,” (Psalm 15:10) and frustrate the plans of those that would harm God’s people.
Indonesia
Growing pressure from Islamic militant groups is forcing churches to close their buildings and limit their ministries. Extremist mobs have smashed church equipment, sealed churches shut, and leveled death threats against church leaders if they attempt to continue in their ministry.
Laos
Just this week, government officials in Laos have arrested 58 Christians for conducting ministry that grew too large to be overlooked. Even though the church had been recognized by the government, their work was too prominent to be tolerated by the Communist authorities.
Such imprisonment is commonplace in Laos, where there are few, if any, safeguards to protect Christians from the whims of Communist officials.
Sri Lanka
Over the past couple of weeks, violence against Christians in Sri Lanka has seen a dramatic increase. While the nation has been wracked by civil war for decades, it appears that this hostility is now being turned towards the Christian minority population.
Pastors are taking the brunt of the direct persecution, some being beaten and killed for their ministry. But the entire Body of Christ faces the persecution as well—Christian students have been beaten, believers are threatened with imprisonment if they continue to worship, and each faces loss of home and property for standing firm in Jesus.
There are many other countries that I could bring to your attention for your prayers. These examples, though, give you an idea of the suffering that the persecuted church faces all over the world. Let us bear their burdens today, as we raise their needs before the Throne of Grace.
Yours for the Body of Christ,

Gabriel J. Waddell
