Dear Friend of the Persecuted Church--
It's the most wonderful time of the year...
There is something inherently hospitable about seeing Christmas trees in house windows while driving along the street. Even if you don't know the people, just seeing that tree seems warm and inviting. Though the weather may turn chilly, we are reminded of the warming power of family and friends.
But not all are as fortunate as we, this time of year, especially in the Body of Christ. While we broadcast our celebrations with lights and trees and feasts, they celebrate covertly. And sometimes their celebrations end in suffering.
Let us take the time to pray for those that celebrate the same Christ that we do, but in such different circumstances. Here are some of the specific stories from the past couple of days.
North Korean Christians Celebrate Christmas Covertly (One News Now)
Communist North Korea officially forbids the celebration of Christmas. That does not stop our brothers and sisters from rejoicing in Christ's birth, though--it just means that they must do so in very small groups and without public display.
Gaza's Christians Keep Low Christmas Profile (Assist News)
Christians in Gaza have been greatly affected by the recent murder of a prominent activist. While no group has officially claimed responsibility, living in a Muslim country controlled by Hamas has caused Christians to celebrate very quietly to avoid further violence.
Militant Hindus Attack Christmas Celebrations (The Persecution Times)
The attacks in the Indian state of Orissa, began when around 500 men attacked a nativity scene that had been erected by a number of local denominations. It did not end there, though, as churches throughout the state were attacked by mobs. The latest reports say that 2 Christians were killed, and 12 churches damaged.
These stories are but a drop in the bucket. Thank you for taking the time to step back and remember these suffering saints in your prayers.
Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!
Yours for the Persecuted Church,

Gabriel J. Waddell
