"Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body."

-Hebrews 13:3

Middle East Survey Trip, January, 2007

Jordan
Our Remember team talked to many Iraqi Christians who had lost their breadwinner to martyrdom at the hands of Saddam Hussein’s government. We also talked to two men who still bear the marks of the brutal torture they experienced for holding fast to their faith.

These Iraqi Christians are practically exiled in Jordan. They cannot return home, or they will be killed-but they have nothing in Jordan! We purchased heaters, blankets, and other supplies to help them through the winter.

Egypt
In Egypt, our team met personally with the H family, who we have been supporting for a number of months. Pastor E, pictured here, was murdered by the secret police for his effective gospel work, but that has not stopped his family from continuing on in their faith.

Mrs. H told us that she did not think that she would have survived the past couple of months without the support from Remember. Praise God for using us to bless His saints!

Undaunted by the fact that his father was killed, and in spite of the stab wound he was given, Brother A is working to continue his father’s ministry. In a neighborhood much like the one pictured above, Brother A is the pastor of this church.

Sudan
The Sudan is a country of great natural beauty, some of the friendliest people you could ever meet, and an unbelievable amount of spiritual oppression. We ministered in both the capital city of Khartoum and the central Nuba Mountains.

In the Nuba Mountains, we worked in conjunction with a pastors conference that brought dozens of area pastors into the city of Kadugli. When we asked these pastors for stories of persecution, we were overwhelmed—in this area, almost every Christian has experienced some form of persecution.

In Khartoum, we interviewed people who lost family members due to persecution. Many had lost their providers, and were barely scratching out a living in this hostile environment to care for their children. One of the women pictured here has even been forced to dip out toilets—the American equivalent of emptying a septic tank with a bucket—in order to feed her family.

One such testimony came from this young widow. She feeds her family by working long hours doing laundry. When we asked her what prayer request she would share with the American church, her first plea was for her children’s education. Remember purchased a bed for her, as she could not afford a comfortable place to sleep.
